About the Department of Communication Studies

The department first began as extra classes students could take to better their skills in public speaking. The department was also combined with theater, until 1922 when both departments were combined with the English department until 1941. The departments of Communication Studies and Theater were then a single department again until 1990, when they became two separate departments.
