Contents
The bulk of our files retained in the archives have to do with discussions of feminism and women’s place in academics and Catholicism, highlighting the women and educators at St. Catherine University as well as other ACTC and women’s schools involved in the creation and continuation of Women’s Studies programs. This includes documentation of a 1991 symposium entitled, “Feminism and Catholic Social Thought”, clippings and descriptions of gender exclusive programs held by St. Catherine and groups for young women to become more comfortable with and involved in STEM and the Liberal Arts and course proposals, descriptions and brochures for a variety of classes and events centered around women in academics and the church.

About the Women's Studies Department
Courses in Women’s Studies began being offered in 1987, and in 1992 it was possible for students to get a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s studies through a collection of ACTC schools, with Catherine Lupori being the first coordinator and faculty head of the department as well as founder of the Abigail Quigley McCarthy Center for Women’s Research, Resources and Scholarship. The initial activity of the department had to do with discussions of feminism and women’s place in academics as well as in Catholicism, with articles highlighting the work of the women and educators at St. Catherine University as well as other ACTC schools and women’s schools throughout the country involved in the inception and continuation of Women’s Studies programs, including a 1991 symposium and gender exclusive programs for young women to provide an early introduction to STEM and the Liberal Arts. Sharon Doherty remains the Women’s Studies department director since 1994.
