The content of the collection is largely from the 1950s and 1960s, when the department was paired with both Psychology and Religion (1944-1958) and Theology (1958-1969). There are external reviews, course catalogs, brochures, meeting notes and other similar material. The collection also contains files on guest lecturers (generally from 1950-1980) and student work, grade reports, student responses to questionaries’ regarding the structure of the program, and correspondence regarding essential reading material for the program.

About the Department of Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy began when St. Catherine was established in 1905, but was combined with the Education department in 1914. In 1916 it was paired with the department of Religion; the Psychology department joining alongside both Religion and Philosophy in 1944. The departments remained combined until 1969, whe the department became again its own department, with the original name: the Department of Philosophy.
