Biographical / Historical
Maurice A. Jones was born in Edwardsville, Illinois. He received his undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in music from the University of Illinois. In 1970, he came to the College of St. Catherine, where he conducted the Chorale of the Colleges of St. Catherine and St. Thomas, and taught choral conducting and private voice. In 1984 he was responsible for creating the music theater degree program at St. Kate's. Highly respected in his field, Dr. Jones was in frequent demand across the country as guest conductor, judge, and clinician. He appeared in many major theatrical roles including Chimera Theatre productions of The Sound of Music, South Pacific, and Sweeney Todd. He also directed many productions for the Twin Cities Opera Guild, was guest stage director for Opera St. Paul, as well as general director and stage director of the Five College Interim Opera productions. He was bass baritone soloist with the Twin Cities Catholic Chorale.
