Series 6: Hispanic Motivational Program & Un Primer Paso

The Hispanic Motivational Program "Un Primer Paso" (The First Step) was initiated in 1981 with a grant submitted by President Catherine McNamee and the Director of the Multicultural and International Programs and Services office, June Noronha, to The Saint Paul Foundation (TSPF). The grant outlined a program that would involve Hispanic junior high students from the surrounding Twin Cities area, their parents, St. Catherine faculty/staff, and St. Catherine Hispanic students working together to promote higher education to the junior high girls. The grant was accepted in the summer of 1981, and implemented for the acadmic year 1981-82. The program continued in various forms until about 1997.
