Music and Theater Department records, 2011 - 2022
Scope and Contents
This collection includes materials from the Music and Theater Department and its predecessors. Most of the collection’s material relates to performances instead of administrative files, with a minimum of departmental meeting minutes and end of year reports. Instead programs, posters, advertisements for productions, and scripts make up the bulk of this collection. Although most of the scripts are undated, some date from as early as 1951, when the Music and Theater Department did not yet exist under that name.

Biographical / Historical
This department started as two separate departments: Music and Expression. The Department of Music would remain independent until 2011. Expression was mainly about public speaking and communication, with dramatics in a few of the courses. In 1922 dramatics and public speaking were combined with the English department until 1941, when they split from the English department and became the Department of Speech and Drama. In 1990 this department's successor, the Department of Communications, Telecommunications, and Theater split, with Communications and Telecommunications as one department and Theater as its own department. It was not until 2011 that theater and music were combined as the Department of Music and Theater.
