Biographical / Historical
The Summer Session program has been a part of many departments. It is unknown when the program initially began but some older sisters remember courses offered as early as 1916. It initially was run through the registrar, from 1929 to 1963. In 1963 the first director was appointed. From 1977 the responsibility for Summer Sessions has been fulfilled by other offices. Religious Education, Seminar for Women and Enriched Program were supervised by various sisters. From 1977 to 1979 the “Academic Dean directed the session, delegating to Continuing Education and Religious Education the responsibly for those special aspects of the program.” In 1979 the responsibility would be taken over by the Associate Dean and Assistant to the Dean who would lead until 1981. In 1981 the Office of Continuing Education would assume responsibility for the program.
