Series 1: Biographical Materials

 Series

Contents:

The Biographical Materials series is probably of greatest interest to the researcher within this collection. Materials represent a cross-section of Bethune's life endeavors and include a broad range of years and periods in her life, as well as a broad scope of record formats. The Awards, Degrees, and Honors subseries reflects the public recognition of Bethune's life, starting with her first creative prize and ending with a posthumous honor for her life's work. The Biography Records contain several versions of biographical notes and chronologies written by Bethune herself, and miscellaneous materials that reflect the activities of her personal and professional life. The highlights of the Biographical Materials series are the Calendars and Datebooks, in which she kept detailed records of her daily life and work; and the early Sketchbooks and Notebooks, which serve as a representation of her formative artistic development.
