About Coeur de Catherine
The Coeur de Catherine was so named to honor St. Catherine of Alexandria and because the building was envisioned to be the center, or heart, of campus life. The Board of Trustees authorized a $2 million expenditure for construction. Planning for the new building began in 2000, construction began in 2002, and the new complex of buildings was completed and opened in 2004. The result was a complex consisting of a new structure that connected the old St. Joseph's Hall and the St. Catherine Library. The two older buildings (St. Joseph Hall and the library) were renovated as part of the project.
Two architectural firms were involved: (1) Shepley, Bulfinch, Richardson, and (2) Abbott and Hammel, Green and Abrahamson. Contractors were McGough Construction and Opus Construction.
The Coeur de Catherine, also known as CdC, serves as a student center and houses many offices and departments, The Rauenhorst Ballroom, and the dining hall. A bridge connects the CdC to Our Lady of Victory Chapel.
