Biographical / Historical
According to "Student Singers Cut Record; Album Features French Carols," in the December 11, 1964 issue of The Catherine Wheel: "even students of the College of St. Catherine have cut a record of French Christmas carols. Songs in the album, "Chantons Noel/' are sung by junior professed Sisters of St. Joseph, Sister Maurice and Sister Elsa, freshman Jill Baumgartner who plays the guitar, juniors Peg Bernet and Eileen Houle, and seniors Jeanette Kraemer and Connie Pietrowski. Sister Mary Davida, chairman of the music department, accompanies the students in several selections. The recording was made at the request of three CSC alum-nae: Ann Collopy, Marcelle LaMonte, and Jo Ann Shekleton, high school teachers of French. The album appears under the Listening Library, Inc., label. The Minnesota company has volunteered to give a share of the profits to the college's capital program. A limited number of records is available to the student body for $3.95 each and may be purchased from any member of the French department faculty or from Sister Mary Davida."
