Scope and Contents
This collection consists of photographs, records and memorabilia relating to the St. Mary’s School of Nursing prior to the merger with St. Catherine’s College in 1986. Materials focus on students, alumnae, and the history of the institution. The collection represents only those records that were saved by the College of Saint Catherine Alumnae Association. The bulk of materials originate from the St. Mary’s Alumnae Association, including alumnae correspondence, event planning, newsletters, administrative and legal documents, and personal materials of certain alumnae. These personal materials include school workbooks, news articles, and scrapbooks. Various other departments are represented only minimally. Historical records include memorabilia, news articles, and historical accounts of the organization and its students. Subjects include the history of nursing education, cadet nurses and wartime artifacts, and notable persons. The photograph collection consists mostly of images relating to nursing, nursing education, student life, and graduation. A large portion of the images are unidentified photographs believed to be ca. 1970. There are also photographs by date of graduation, including the original class pictures and reunion pictures, and photographs originating from the Good News publication office. The graduation photographs cover most graduations from 1900 to 1969.

The documents regarding events that occurred at St. Mary's include booklets regarding the Faculty and Staff Recognition Celebrations between 1991-1998. There also are invitations and other documents about the 1986 president's dinner and documents about the 1962 Diamond Jubliee Conference. In addition to this there are flyers, letters and administrative documents about the 1978-1982 "A day at SMJC" event. There are programs, news releases, etc about the 20th birthday celebration from 1984, parent's day, 1983, flyers, photographs and reports regarding St. Mary's participation in the 1983 Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood Parade. There is also a variety of commencement documents from the 1920's and a large amount from 1966-1971. This contains lists of students for various honors/ceremonies, programs and invitations.
