Biography
According to obituary: "Barnard, Sister Marquita, CSJ Died at Carondelet Village on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine Nadeau and Peter Diederichs and her stepfather, Harvey Barnard and her three stepbrothers, Frank, Fr. John and Michael. Sister Marquita spent many years teaching chemistry, physics and math at various high schools - St. Mary's in Bird Island, MN; St. James Academy in Grand Forks, ND; St. Joseph's Academy, St. Paul; and St. Margaret's Academy in Minneapolis. After several years of teaching chemistry at the College of St. Catherine, she worked as a research chemist at 3M. She spent a number of years then doing volunteer work in various ministries until she fully retired to Bethany Convent and later to Carondelet Village. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Cavitt; nieces and nephews; friends and colleagues; the Sisters of St. Joseph and Consociates; and her caregivers. A wake will be held 9 - 11 AM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the St. Joseph Provincial House, 1880 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul with the funeral liturgy at 11AM. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery following the luncheon. Memorials may be made to the CSJ Ministries Foundation, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105. The Chemistry Department records contain departmental and annual reports, publicity, and course and faculty materials. There is also a file of handwritten chemistry notes by Sister Antonius Kennelly, chemistry faculty member and third president of St. Catherine. A majority of the collection's records are from the later 1980s.
