About the American Sign Language Department

The department began in 1999, offering a major in American Sign Language, adding the Interpreting major in 2001. The CATIE Center was established in 2005, with the aim to provide research and education for interpreting in healthcare settings. In 2015 a graduate level program in interpreting studies and communication equity was added.
